Solunar Tables (Sol for sun and Lunar for moon) predict the best fishing and hunting times based on the gravitational effect of the sun and the moon. This theory was developed by John Alden Knight in 1926. John noticed that the best ocean fishing seem to correlate with the tides. He wondered if the same cause, namely the sun and moon, could affect fresh water fishing as well.
To prove his new theory, Knight analyzed 200 record catches an found that Over 90 percent were made during the dark of the moon (new moon) when the effects of of the Solunar Periods appear to be greatest, and, more important, they were made during the actual times of the Solunar Periods.
John eventually extended his theory to include hunting.
